In 2002, I was hired as a Multimedia Specialist by Fugro Airborne Surveys Ltd., a multinational geophysics exploration company. I worked out of the head office in Ottawa under the supervision of the Marketing and Business Manager. The company was owned by Fugro N.V., a parent geophysical survey service company based in the Netherlands. The Ottawa office specialized in fixed-wing airborne surveys. Other Canadian offices in Toronto (helicopter), Montreal (cessna), Calgary (GIS data).
My role was to maintain the website to keep up with current web technology and trends. This involved redesign the corporate website to include new technologies like cascading style sheets (CSS).
I created advertisements for industry magazines and papers. I designed a brochure and handouts for use at tradeshows and various other print materials. I also create large scale graphics for use on tradeshow booths and displays and attended a few trade shows in Toronto to gain more insight into industry and sales and marketing environment. I worked primary with staff in the Canadian offices but occasionally advised or assisted other offices overseas with design projects.
I was a member of the social committee and helped to plan and organize company events. I also created the Fugro Flyer, an employee newsletter designed to connect employees across offices by sharing stories and news.
I remained in this position for two and half years at which time I gave notice as I wished to return to Nova Scotia to be closer to my family.
